Hubble Student Handbook 2011-2012

Cafeteria Changes As of April 30th your child will not be able to 'charge' any breakfast, lunch, or milk to his/her account. Funds will have to be paid ahead of time. Snack milk will also end on Monday, April 30th. If you child needs a drink at snack, you will need to send something to school with him/her. These changes are to cut down on bills and make sure we have a zero balance at the end of the school year.

Please remember that we expect and encourage our students to be active at recess and in P.E. Flip flops, sandals and open toe shoes can cause injury to students and they have a tendency to break often as well. We know that the weather is nice and that sandals are easy for your child to put on and take off independently but a closed toe shoe works better for school. Thank you!!

Summertime is Reading Time

Recycling Fun A fun way to teach recycling is to make pictures or crafts. If you have an old neck tie that dad doesn’t wear anymore you can quickly turn it into a stuffed snake. Take the fat end of the tie and you will see how you can open it up. Inside you will see another layer that makes the tie have a thicker appearance. If you pull that layer where you see an opening you can now stuff the snake. You can use plastic grocery bags or wad up old newspaper and begin stuffing the snake careful not to put too much in at a time or the tie will become unstitched. When you are finished sew the end shut, add googly eyes and a tongue and you now have a fun little friend. Another fun way to incorporate reading and crafts would be by reading Diary of a Fly, Diary of a Worm, or Diary of a Spider. After reading the books point out how the illustrator used different items found around the house to create interesting pictures. Challenge your child to make his/her own illustrations.
